RECIPE
Buddha’s Helping (Strawberry) Hand
We all need a little help from friends, and sometimes we also need a drink. This one is fresh and springing with tartness – with a few dashes of bitters and some Buddha shavings for good luck! We utilize whole herb cooking/whole herb usage by not tossing out our parsley stems and turning them into a “grassy” herbaceous syrup, that pairs up with fresh muddled strawberries. The shaved Buddha hand not only offers a pleasant floral-lemonesque flavor aroma to the nose, its gentle lemony flavor has a mild bitterness that we think is totally agreeable to the parsley and berries.

Serves: Makes one drink
Ingredients: 1 big strawberry, quartered
¾ ounce parsley stem syrup*
2 ounces gin
1-ounce lemon juice
Meyer lemon bitters
Dried lemon wheel garnish
Parsley leaf garnish
Fresh Buddha’s hand shavings
¾ ounce parsley stem syrup*
2 ounces gin
1-ounce lemon juice
Meyer lemon bitters
Dried lemon wheel garnish
Parsley leaf garnish
Fresh Buddha’s hand shavings
Preparation: Muddle the strawberry together with the parsley syrup in a cocktail mixer. Add the gin, lemon juice, bitters and some ice and stir for about 20 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass with a large ice cube. Shave some fresh Buddha’s hand over the top and garnish with lemon wheel and parsley leaf.
Recipe Notes: A micro plane is a type of grater and yes, you need one in your kitchen. The fine-tooth model is the one to which we will always refer, the only one that we think is necessary. A micro plane grater shaves finely allows for greater precision on weird items like Buddhas Hands. Break off one finger at a time and grate the vibrant yellow skin off. Do not use too much of the pith as its super bitter. A little is ok, bitter in cocktails can be nice.
